Poetry – Brittle determination

A smile of vague courage
Guides a slow sliding hand
Brittle determination
To now reveal

Hesitant fluttering
Yet resolute eyes
And the touching truth
Of her arm no longer there

Idle contractions
Of muscles serving absence
As if trying to relax
A sigh of vague relief
